Christopher John O’Neill’s shambling Arnold is actually better since he seems from the start like a human being rather than a collection of nervous tics. It isn’t the fault of the performers, nearly all of whom are at least as good as their Broadway counterparts. (I’d entered determined to resist the hype: a kind of double bluff.) In this touring production it seems muffled: literally so, as whenever more than one person is singing, the sound system makes it impossible to understand the words.
